Nude & Landscape by Klaus Ender (AFIAP)

Black and white exhibition of aesthetic nude photographs from over 50 years of creative period. The pictures are exchanged every 7 to 8 weeks.

Klaus Ender, born in Berlin in 1939, began publishing in 1965 in the magazine "Das Magazin," for which he worked for ten years. As an autodidact, he received a license for freelance journalistic work in 1966 on the basis of his photographic achievements. In 1975 he initiated the first nude exhibition in the then GDR, "Akt & Landschaft" (Nude & Landscape), which brought about a cultural-political turning point for the genre of the nude.

In 1979 the World Federation of Art Photography (FIAP) awarded him the international honorary title ARTISTE FIAP (AFIAP). In 1982, the Ministry of Education and the Arts in Vienna classified him as a "Visual Artist of Photography".

He made a name for himself as the author of renowned photo magazines such as PHOTOGRAPHIE or Color Foto, for which he also organized workshops, illustrated about 150 books, over 100 calendars, CD covers, etc., was a book author, poet and aphorist. In 2002 he founded his own publishing house and devoted himself increasingly to poetry. He published among other things poetry and aphorism picture books, nude books, art calendars, poetry cards.

For Klaus Ender, nude photography was inseparable from aesthetics. Eroticism was not in the foreground, he avoided exposed nudity. This informality, beyond any pose, exerts a special charm on the viewer. It was never the spectacular that he associated with nude photography.

The classical nude in its fascination of the human body shaped his image. What counted for him was the naturalness and the unforced harmony between the nude and the surrounding landscape. Mostly embedded in nature, he created aesthetic images with high artistic standards. This naturalness and the discreet representation of the female body make his pictures unmistakable.

Sensibility was indispensable for him. With this view, he had helped shape the nude photography of the GDR. Beauty and aesthetics were his maxims. He deliberately photographed women in their most visually beautiful phase of life. He remained true to these inner, humanistic demands - against all the spirit of the times. "The fascination of the body begins beyond desire," was one of his aphorisms. This fascination, without voyeurism and of its own poetic beauty characterize his pictures. They seem like a snapshot and yet are timeless. In over 50 years, unique works have been created. Today he is one of the most important nude photographers of our time.

Since the exhibition space is not large, the pictures are exchanged every 7 to 8 weeks. Thus, in the course of the season, about 180 images can be seen. The vernissage will take place on April 9 at 14.00 clock
